Artist Statement

Nicolene Louw studied graphic design at the University of Pretoria and later completed her Master’s degree in illustration at the University of Stellenbosch. Together with Leonora van Staden, she co-founded Stripshow – South Africa’s first female driven comics magazine. She is currently based in Pretoria where she lectures and works as a freelance illustrator, designer and fine artist. Her primary interest lies with narrative illustration and the telling of authentic stories through illustration and comics.
