Share your waves of creativity and masterful pencilstrokes with fellow aspiring and established artists on a unique sketchbook day tour presented by Platform on 18th on the move.
This original Artventure is proudly launched on 18 February 2012, with a full day adventure exploring the forgotten and often overlooked cultural and architectural gems of our capital. The aim is a sketchbook tour where participating art lovers and fanatics can freely express themselves by capturing people, architecture and cityscapes through the drawing medium.
One of our established and award winning illustrators, Nicolene Louw, will be leading the tour which will commence with a short introduction and sketching workshop at Studio Vertel in Rietondale, Pretoria. She will also be sharing tips and techniques, as well as her valuable experience with artventurers on the tour.
What makes this tour so different is that it will not be restricted to a classroom environment, but will offer the opportunity to create drawings ‘on site’ at different historical sites across the city.
In the first of a series of tours, participants will be visiting the famous and undeniably remarkable Church Square, rich in historical buildings and late 19th /early 20th century architecture. It promises to serve as the ideal spot for people-watching and enjoying ethnic diversity. The third stop for the day will be either the Sunnyside Bowling Club (established 1923) or Pretoria Country Club bowling fields, providing the perfect backdrop for observing the senior sportsmen and women of our capital in action. (Venues are subject to change depending on the bowling league roster.)
Artventurers will paint Pretoria red in a kombi bus and will be able to enjoy lunch at the legendary Cafe Riche on Church Square. Snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout. The event will culminate in an informal exhibition of the artworks created on the tour as well as a relaxed braai/ social to top it all off.
The tour will run side by side with the Photo day tour and will overlap during lunch as well as the exhibition at the end of the day.
