Let’s go and explore! lets go and create! Lets go and have fun! Yes, we’ve all been waiting for a day to enjoy our passion for taking pictures with fellow enthusiasts…
The opportunity arises with the first in a series of Photo day tours presented by Platform on 18th on the move.
This original Artventure is proudly launched on the 18th of February 2012, with a full day adventure exploring the forgotten and often overlooked cultural and architectural gems of our capital. The aim is a tour where participating photography and lomography fanatics can freely express themselves by capturing people, architecture and cityscapes through the chosen creative medium.
One of our exciting professional photographers, also a lomo enthusiast Mari Engelbrecht, will be leading the tour. It will commence with a short introduction and photography/lomography workshop at Studio Vertel in Rietondale, Pretoria. She will have a number of cameras available to use or try out, but participants are welcome to bring their own hardware if they so wish.
On the first Photo day tour, participants will be visiting the famous and undeniably remarkable Church Square, rich in historical buildings and late 19th /early 20th century architecture. It promises to serve as the ideal spot for people-watching and enjoying ethnic diversity. The third stop for the day will be either the Sunnyside Bowling Club (established 1923) or Pretoria Country Club bowling fields, providing the perfect backdrop for observing the senior sportsmen and women of our capital in action. (Venues are subject to change depending on the bowling league roster.)
Artventurers will paint Pretoria red in a kombi bus and will be able to enjoy lunch at the legendary Cafe Riche on Church Square. Snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout. The event will culminate in an informal exhibition of the artworks created on the tour as well as a relaxed braai/ social to top it all off.
The tour will run side by side with the Sketchbook day tour and will overlap during lunch as well as the exhibition at the end of the day.
